Chestnut Mountain, GA (PRWEB) August 20, 2013 -- Eagle Ranch, one of Georgia’s largest homes for children in crisis, welcomes a new Director of Education for its on-campus school, which serves grades 6-9. Jon DeWaal, a seasoned educator with nearly 30 years experience, will lead the SACS-accredited Eagle Ranch School.
A native of Ontario, Canada, DeWaal last served as a key administrator with Academia Los Pinares in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, a position he held for nearly four years. Prior to that, DeWaal spent 25 years as an educator with the Kalamazoo Christian School Association in Michigan.
“Jon is a great addition to the Eagle Ranch staff,” noted Eagle Ranch Founder and Executive Director Eddie Staub. “His leadership and experience will help us continue the standard of excellence and innovation at Eagle Ranch School.”
DeWaal replaced Wade Pearce, who helped found Eagle Ranch School in 2001. Pearce recently joined Hall County Schools and is serving as principal of Chestnut Mountain Elementary School.
“When I first came to Eagle Ranch, I was immediately impressed with the dedicated and committed people I met throughout the organization,” said DeWaal. “I am excited to be part of a ministry that provides so many resources and opportunities for struggling children and their families.”
DeWaal received a Bachelor’s degree in teaching from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., and a Masters in Educational Leadership from Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo. DeWaal, and his wife Sharon, relocated from Honduras to Georgia this summer. The couple has five grown children.
