DENVER (PRWEB) April 26, 2018 -- Eating Recovery Center (ERC), a trusted provider of comprehensive treatment for eating disorders, announced today its third annual Eating Recovery Day will be held on Tuesday, May 1. This year’s theme #MyRecoveryLetter invites eating disorder survivors to write a letter to the person, item, or spirit that embodies recovery for them, showing others that recovery is possible and igniting hope for the millions battling an eating disorder. This call-to-action extends to family, friends, and clinical experts as well – or anyone who served as a support system – to write letters of gratitude, reflection, and inspiration in celebration of this year’s theme.
World-renowned calligraphist Yomar Augusto developed an exclusive calligraphy font for Eating Recovery Day. Every participant that submits a letter at MyRecoveryLetter.com will have it transformed into a keepsake work of art, that can be shared on social media platforms by simply using the hashtag #MyRecoveryLetter.

Eating Recovery Day (ERD) was first created in 2016 to build awareness of the pervasive nature of eating disorders and to inspire hope. Each year, ERD reaches millions nationwide, helping to shift the conversation from the crisis of the “disorder” to instead the potential for “recovery.”
Members of ERC’s Recovery Ambassador Council and National Recovery Advocates have already written recovery letters as examples to inspire others, including:
Kelli E: My Love Letter…To My Husband.
I love you for so many reasons. You live out what unconditional love looks like. You refused to let the eating disorder, which lived between us for so many years, hide the person I really was. You loved me when I was sure I was unlovable. You reminded me that you loved me for who I was, not for what I did.
Kara W: Dear Sun
It feels a little silly writing to you but the truth is, you mean a lot to me. You see, in my darkest days of binging, when I ate myself in a corner, letting life crumble around me, you were still there. I stopped going outside, worried what other people thought of me at my highest weight and the stigma and shame I carried with me. I stopped feeling the joy of your warmth on my face.
Shannon K: Dear Shannon
Remember when you worked at the San Diego Humane Society and sent a hopeless email to your therapist? You wrote, “I feel like I will never recover, and I hate myself for that...” You will recover. You will become a mother. You will write a book. You will latch onto and love this awesome, messy, mundane life. The hurt and hell will build compassion. The years lost to an eating disorder will bring you close to others who suffer in the dark—late at night in the kitchen or alone in a hospital bed or homeless inside of a dog kennel.
Eating disorders are more prevalent than many realize, with the latest statistics indicating that more than 30 million people in the U.S. suffer from an eating disorder. Over 70% of sufferers will not seek treatment due to stigma, misconceptions, lack of education, diagnosis, and lack of access to care. While those numbers may be sobering, statistics show that up to 80% of patients who receive and complete eating disorder treatment will recover or improve significantly.1
