Elko Speedway's Scott Kingery Memorial Race Recap
Elko, MN (PRWEB) June 29, 2015 -- Jacob Goede from Carver (MN) won his fourth MN Corn Growers Super Late Model feature of 2015 at Elko Speedway.
Goede started up front and never looked back, he bested the 23 car field for the entire 40 laps in the NASCAR Whelen All American series, he finished just in front of 9 time Champion Donny Reuvers by 1.127 seconds at the line. Jacobs’ younger brother Matt Goede started seventh and moved up to third.
Defending Champion Jacob Goede now has a 21 point lead over Donny Reuvers in the point standings.
Ted Reuvers from Dundas (MN) won the 3rd annual Scott Kingery memorial Thunder Car race at Elko Speedway.
The past two winners of this event both had problems that prevented them from being a factor at the end of the race. Defending winner Conrad Jorgenson only completed 18 laps in the 40 lap feature, he dropped out with mechanical problems and finished 23rd.
Inaugural winner Brent Kane ended up with a flat tire and had to pit causing him to finish 21st. “We did have a little bit of contact,” said Reuvers “I guess I don’t know if I caused that (flat tire) to Brent, if so, I am sorry, that’s racing.”
Dusty Mann lead the 24 car field of Genz-Ryan Thunder Cars to the green, he lead early in the race and then had a great battle with Reuvers for the top spot. “Dusty is a good hard racer and nobody wrecked so that is what counts,” said Reuvers who finally got past Mann on a restart with 14 laps to go.
Dillion Sellner started 11th and raced his way up to 2nd, he finished .835 seconds out of the lead, the Great Northern Sportsman Series Champion Devin Schmidt ended up third and Dusty Mann came home fourth.
This race is in honor of Scott Kingery a former racer and car owner at Elko Speedway who died of cancer. His wife and family was in attendance and actively participated in all aspects of the race night, “Scott was out here (at Elko Speedway) for as long as I can remember,” said Reuvers “it’s a tough deal, but his memory keeps going.”
With a 13th place finish Jeremy Wolff now has a 6 point advantage over Brent Kane in the Point standings.
Two former Jefferson Speedway (WI) Champions made the 4 hour 30 minute trip up to Elko Speedway to compete in the race. Jason Thoma blew a motor in practice and never started the feature and Mark Deporter finished on the lead lap in 14th, 7.293 seconds behind Reuvers.
Lawrence Berthiaume from Albertville (MN) won the Hiway Federal Credit Union BIG 8 feature event.
Jon Lemke and Ryan Kamish had a furious side by side battle for the lead until lap 7 when Berthiaume passed them both on the low side in corner number two, “I just closed my eyes and made the pass,” said Berthiaume jokingly “these wins are hard to come by.”
Berthiaume took the lead and increased it as the race went on, he finished 1.715 seconds ahead of Kamish with Dylan Moore 2.215 seconds behind.
Chris Marek who is the Defending BIG 8 Champion and 5 time winner this year started 8th and worked his way up to 4th during the 25 lap main event. Marek has a 38 point lead over Dylan Moore in the standings.
Matt Ryan from New Market (MN) won the Pepsi Power Stock 20 lap feature. Ryan lead the race from flag to flag but had to hold on the last five laps when his power steering was failing.
Ryan finished just ahead of Joey Prusak by .281 seconds at the finish line, Taylor Goldman got third and 14 yr old Grant Brown finished 4th in the 20 car main event.
Tom Doten finished 7th in the race and holds onto a 19 point lead over defending Champion Nick Oxborough in the standings, Grant Brown is 22 points out of the lead.
Robby Carter from Burnsville (MN) was the best of the 23 cars in the Great North Legends 20 lap feature. Carter lead all the laps but was pressured by previous winners Matt Allen and Brady Fox-Rhode, Ted Hough finished a season high fourth place.
Brady Fox-Rhode holds a 15 point lead over both Matt Allen and Derek Lemke in the Standings.
Ashley Bell from Lester Prairie (MN) won her 3rd feature of 2015 at Elko Speedway in the Hornets division. Bell finished ahead of Brandon Plekkenpol by .257 seconds at the finish line, front row starters Michael Weiss and Chandler Ulrich finished third and fourth. The Hornets car counts have been very good this year, 19 cars started the main event.
Ashley Bell is now 25 points behind Justin Schelitzche in the race for the Point Championship.
11 year old Coy Wulf from Lakeville (MN) won his first ever Bandoleros feature event, he finished just ahead of a hard charging Owin Giles for the win.
