Entering its Sixth Year, Nike Rugby Camps Still Going Strong
SAN RAFAEL, Calif. (PRWEB) March 12, 2018 -- Nike Rugby Camps recently unveiled its network of camp locations for the 2018 season, marking its sixth summer offering rugby camps to the sport’s growing domestic population.
“We’ve learned a great deal over the past five years,” said Jason West, senior vice president for Nike Rugby Camps. “The rugby community is so tight-knit, so committed to the game and each other. We operate Nike Camps in 16 different sports and I would argue rugby is unique in the sense that virtually everyone involved in the sport wants to give back in some way, especially when it comes to the next generation. For our part, we try to deliver a good instructional platform for youth players across the entire skills spectrum.”
Nike Rugby Camps will host camps at University of San Diego, Stanford University, Oregon State University, University of Michigan, Colorado School of Mines, University of Utah, St. John’s University, Sam Houston State University, and Jesuit High School in Sacramento, CA. Instruction is provided by Division I college coaches, and current/former USA Rugby coaches and players.
The curriculum places emphasis on mastering fundamentals and improving overall technique. Age ranges vary as do the camp formats, which include overnight and commuter programs for youth players just starting out through competitive high school athletes.
“Our specific niche is bringing rugby instruction to players of all ages and abilities in a university setting,” said West. “We want to fully immerse kids in the sport for a three or four day period, offer up an incredible learning experience, and also give these young athletes a snapshot of life in college. Naturally we hope they leave the camp more equipped as players and more passionate as fans of the sport.”
