EPIC5 Challenge Ultra Triathlon Set to Launch Third Event in 2017
Hanalei, HI (PRWEB) September 01, 2017 -- Mankind has long sought to test the limits of human endurance with feats of conquest. Climbing Mount Everest, the Tour de France, and swimming the English Channel have all presented formidable challenges to those who’ve accepted the obstacles each of these endeavors has presented.
The EPIC5 Challenge is hosting a second event in Hawaii this year due to the overwhelming number of interested & qualified athletes. Prior to 2017, there had been eleven finishers total between 2010 and 2016.
• In May 2017, there were ten finishers at the Hawaii event.
• In June 2017, there were two finishers at the inaugural New York City EPIC5 event.
• And in September 2017, seven more athletes will attempt this incredible feat, bringing the 2017 finishers to potentially nineteen.
Next week, from September 5-9, the seven athletes will attempt to shatter the standards of human endurance as they complete five iron distance triathlons in just five days on five Hawaiian Islands in what’s known as the EPIC5 Challenge. That’s 140.6 miles each day (2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike & 26.2 mile run) for a total of 703 miles. A spiritual voyage, not a race, the EPIC5 Challenge is an unprecedented athletic journey and a once in a lifetime triathlon adventure.
Kauai, Hawaii will launch the event on September 5th at 6:00am, and each participant will have 15 hours to complete the circuit. A flight to Oahu in the evening will put the athletes in position to start their second day. On September 7th, Molokai will be the stage for the third leg, with Maui to host the fourth day. The climactic ending will occur on the Big Island of Hawaii, where the renowned endurance sports venue of Kona will greet the athletes on the final day. Here, they’ll wrap up the 703 mile trek on the Big Island, expected to go into the wee early hours of the morning.
The following seven athletes in the September event will travel from around the globe:
• Anastas Panchenko (Russia)
• Elisabeth Schwibs (Germany)
• Ignacio Quiles Lara (Spain)
• José Massuça (Portugal)
• Keith Bergh (USA)
• Michele Santilhano (USA)
• Toni Marsal Bonet (USA)
The event was founded in 2010 when Jason Lester and Rich Roll set out to complete what many deemed the impossible. Since then, some of the world’s toughest ultra triathletes have participated in this annual event, testing the limits of mind, body & spirit as they embark on a passage to discover the depths of oneself.
The 703-mile course is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
