Spring Blooms with Art in Westchester
For 30 years, Spring Crafts at Lyndhurst has been one of America’s leading craft events. Each year, 300 artists fill the grounds of the Neo-Gothic Lyndhurst estate, offering one-of-a-kind gifts during the stunning spring blossom season in Westchester County. This year the event will take place Friday, May 1st through Sunday, May 3rd, providing a great day for the entire family at one of America’s most beautiful landmarks. Families will enjoy exciting activities including tours of the Lyndhurst mansion, live music, kids’ activities, gourmet foods and craft demonstrations. This May, Historic Hudson Valley, the creators of the Great Jack O’Lantern Blaze, presents an immersive journey into a springtime garden fantasy featuring colorful creatures and flowers. Back for its second year, LIGHTSCAPES is an incredible walk-through nighttime display of sculpture, light, sound, and special effects that provides an enchanting event featuring all-original sculptures designed and hand-made on site. Discover larger-than-life elements like a colossal praying mantis and a massive mayfly. Smile at scores of delightful dragonflies, cute ladybugs, and an avalanche of pinwheels. State-of-the-art illumination will highlight the incredible works of art. In addition, a clear-top, artfully decorated hospitality tent will offer spring-themed sweets including organic sorbet and ice cream sandwiches from Blue Pig of Croton and homemade candy and baked goods from Geordane’s of Irvington. Tickets cost $16 for adults, $12 for children ages 3-7 (free for children under 3). LIGHTSCAPES is open on various days throughout the month of May and takes place at Van Cortlandt Manor, located at 525 South Riverside Avenue in Croton-on-Hudson. Enjoy Holiday Weekend Activities
A weekend in Westchester is a great way to treat anyone's mother. For fun nightlife, take her to the White Plains Performing Arts Center to see a performance by BLACKOUT, a New York City-based singing group reinventing a cappella music with innovative arrangements and a distinctive, signature sound, delivering high-energy performances with a contemporary twist. This event is a new Copland House tradition at Lyndhurst, featuring mezzo-soprano Eve Gigliotti and pianist Michael Boriskin. Copland House is dedicated to nurturing and renewing America’s musical heritage and fostering greater public awareness and appreciation for our nation’s composers and their work. The show starts at 4:00 p.m. and tickets are $25.
