Fix the Debt Launches Governors Fiscal Leadership Council
Washington, DC (PRWEB) October 11, 2013 -- Today, the Campaign to Fix the Debt announced the creation of the Governors Fiscal Leadership Council (GFLC), a bipartisan group of 40 former governors – 20 Republicans and 20 Democrats – from across the country united in the belief that our mounting national debt must be addressed to preserve America’s long-term fiscal health and prosperity.
“The Campaign to Fix the Debt is pleased to announce the launch of the Governors Fiscal Leadership Council,” said Maya MacGuineas, head of the Campaign to Fix the Debt. “Former Governors understand how to work in a bipartisan fashion to get the job done, and the importance of being fiscally responsible while doing so. The formation of the GLFC is a tremendous asset to the Campaign as we work to stabilize and reduce the national debt as a share of the economy.”
With the federal government still shut down, and the debt ceiling quickly approaching, the members of the GFLC are urging our elected leaders in Washington to responsibly deal with our short-term fiscal challenges and focus on our nation’s unsustainable debt.
The Campaign to Fix the Debt is a non-partisan movement asking lawmakers to work together on legislation large enough to stabilize and reduce the national debt as a share of the economy. Members come from a broad range of social, economic and political perspectives with the belief that America's growing debt burden threatens our future, and that we must address it now. The Campaign will mobilize key communities – including leaders from business, government, and policy – and people all across America who want to see elected officials step up to solve our nation's fiscal challenges.
