He is the Nancy L. Ertle Professor of Marketing and the faculty director of the Program on Data Analytics at Northwestern University’s Kellogg School of Management.

Professor Zettelmeyer has served as an expert in a number of high-profile automotive product liability class actions. He has consulted on sales and product issues for major companies in the automotive industry, including Toyota, Honda, Ford, and Autobytel.
A research associate at the National Bureau of Economic Research, Professor Zettelmeyer specializes in evaluating the effects of information technology and big data on firms. More generally, his research addresses how the information consumers have about firms and the information firms have about consumers affect firm behavior.
He has received several teaching awards, including outstanding professor of the year in the Kellogg M.B.A. program. Previously, he was professor of marketing and chair of the marketing group at the Haas School of Business, University of California, Berkeley. Early in his career he worked as a consultant at McKinsey & Company in Germany.
Professor Zettelmeyer has served as coeditor-in-chief of Quantitative Marketing and Economics, and in many other editorial positions. He has published his findings in numerous academic journals, including the American Economic Review and Marketing Science.
