Focus on Therapeutic Outcomes, Inc. (FOTO) Surpasses the 100 Million Message Milestone with Integration Partners
Knoxville, TN (PRWEB) March 31, 2016 -- Since 1994, FOTO has been measuring functional outcomes of physical and occupational therapy patients. In 2012, due to the demand for outcomes measures to be included in EMR and Documentation Systems, FOTO created an Application Programming Interface (API) to exchange information about patients and patient episodes with industry partners. FOTO reports that the API is now exchanging over 5 million messages per month between FOTO and its industry partners.
“The initial idea was to try to reduce the time required by staff to set up and manage outcomes in FOTO, and to allow vendor partners to automatically retrieve our patient outcomes reports to include in the EMR or Documentation System,” states Curtis Jones, FOTO’s COO.
According to Jones, the API has evolved considerably to provide for a much broader and more granular type of data exchange, as well as adopted single-sign-on (SSO) capability to improve the user experience. “In early 2015, we introduced a host of new features in the API to allow for an integration partner to retrieve virtually any data item via a structured report object. If the customer wants to pull a particular question and answer pair, group of questions, score, or prediction, and include that in certain areas of the EMR or Documentation System, they can.” Jones continues, “We also introduced SSO capabilities, to provide our mutual customers a hand-in-glove feel while moving efficiently and seamlessly between the two systems.”
"This integration will allow FOTO Outcomes data to be an integral part of the patient record, and provide for the automatic exchange of G Codes and severity modifiers for PQRS and FLR compliance reporting," states Al Amato, PT, MBA, President of FOTO. "Vendors are offering a full suite of applications that promise a complete integration of documentation, scheduling, billing and outcomes management.”
Amato continues, “Combining FOTO treatment outcomes data with episodic data available in the EMR platform will provide reports necessary to respond to competitive forces demanding clinical and administrative accountability. You can’t just say you are a good provider anymore. Now, you have to prove you are providing better outcomes, improved patient satisfaction, and lower total cost of care. This combination provides the tools you need to be competitive now and in the future.”
