Foundation Financial Group Volunteers with Habitat for Humanity
Wichita, Kansas (PRWEB) September 26, 2013 -- Foundation Financial Group announced its support of Habitat for Humanity, an organization that brings people together to build, renovate, or preserve homes for those in need. Employees from Foundation Financial’s Wichita Retail Branch Office, located at 11333 E. Kellogg Avenue # 300, volunteered to help the organization with its mission to break the cycle of poverty.
“This is the second time our office has volunteered with Habitat for Humanity,” said Bobbi Jo Dixon, FFG event coordinator. “We returned and will continue to do so because we love helping people who are trying to create a better living situation for their family. Habitat for Humanity and Foundation Financial Group share a very important goal: improving communities and the lives of others. I am proud to be part of a company that embraces its social responsibility.”
FFG employees dedicated a Saturday to volunteering with Wichita’s Habitat for Humanity. The team focused on helping builders complete one home. The main task for Foundation Financial Group volunteers was putting up drywall throughout the house to make interior walls. Several FFG team members had never installed drywall and enjoyed learning the new skill while making a difference.
“The coolest thing about being part of Habitat for Humanity is knowing that you are working toward finishing someone’s house” continued Dixon, who has volunteered with Habitat since 1988. “The place we worked on today will become a beautiful home for a family, a place where they will make their special memories.”
Donations from various organizations have helped Wichita Habitat for Humanity make affordable homes available for nearly 200 families. The nonprofit provides a path to homeownership for families residing in Sedgwick County who meet certain criteria. Applicants must be able to pay $450 per month for 20 years. Families currently living in substandard, overcrowded, temporary, or unsafe living conditions, families spending over 30% of income on housing and utility costs, and families who have been unable to obtain a conventional bank loan are eligible for Habitat for Humanity houses. Additionally, prospective Humanity homeowners must be willing to commit to between 250 and 400 hours of labor on the house, attending homeownership classes, and saving money to cover their closing costs.
