Fresh Coat Painters Helps Create a Relaxing Environment for Struggling Teen

That’s why Darrell Hale, owner of Fresh Coat Painters Allen and McKinney, wanted to donate painting services to those in his community – to make a difference.
Hale and his team were recently involved in a Make-A-Wish Foundation® room makeover for a 17-year-old named Tyler Cole. Tyler has been living with Tuberous Sclerosis since he was a baby. Two mutated chromosomes cause his body to create tumors and he suffers from severe epilepsy. His condition also causes him to have autistic tendencies – something his mom Maria Cole is hoping will be helped by his room makeover, which includes painting the room a soothing oceanic blue and toning the white trim down with a warmer, creamier white.
“My family, which includes two younger sons, is great and Tyler is wonderful and sweet, but doing things like sitting at the kitchen table can be overwhelming. We’re hoping that, by making his room more of a refuge, we’ll get to have more quality time together when he’s not in his room. It’s important to me that we have family dinners, but it can be a real challenge for him on some days,” Maria said.
“I'm still in awe when I see Tyler's room. Darrell was very organized and professional, and his painters were prompt and tidy. I was very impressed they used NO tape for the edges, yet looked like they did. And the color is perfect – THANK YOU Fresh Coat!!” she added.
The painting was completed on March 10 with the room renovation reveal the following week on March 17. The paint for the project was donated by Sherwin-Williams, Fresh Coat Painters’ national paint partner.
"Working with Maria and her family was a wonderful experience and I hope the makeover we helped complete on Tyler's room will make him more comfortable. I'm looking forward to working with Make-A-Wish and other local families in the future," Hale said.
The color the family picked was chosen through the online service Houzz. Hale said it’s a powerful tool that can really help families with color selection. Fresh Coat Painters Allen and McKinney was actually named to the Best of Houzz for 2014 and 2015
Getting involved with this Make-A-Wish® project is part of Fresh Coat Painters’ national “Paint it Forward” initiative to brighten up the homes or offices of those that deserve a fresh space across the country.
“I have four girls and if we were in a position like Tyler’s family, I’d appreciate the kind of support Make-A-Wish can offer. I’d want people to be there for me and my family. Now that I’m in a position to give back as a small business owner, that’s what I want to do. I’m looking forward to helping make this wish come true for Tyler and his family,” Hale said.
