Fundraising Campaign Launched to Eradicate Deadly Cancer
Alexandria, VA (PRWEB) November 30, 2014 -- The Mesothelioma Applied Research Foundation (Meso Foundation) is conducting a year-end fundraising campaign to raise funds for its programs in mesothelioma research, education, patient support, and advocacy. The fundraising campaign includes a written appeal letter from mesothelioma patient Bill Ziegler, and is accompanied by an online portion of the campaign which allows community members to fundraise on behalf of the organization.
The Meso Foundation sent an appeal letter to its supporters, written by Bill Ziegler, who was diagnosed with mesothelioma in 2011. Bill, a husband and father of three children, tells of his unexpected diagnosis and the subsequent help he found at the Meso Foundation. Bill states, “The Meso Foundation has provided me the tools and resources necessary to face mesothelioma head on, and have a successful outcome; for that I will always be grateful.”
The online portion of the campaign can be viewed at curemeso.org/savelives. Through this website, the Meso Foundation encourages visitors to donate, start their own online peer-to-peer fundraisers, or tell their stories through a customized appeal letter which can be sent to their friends and families.
The Meso Foundation obtains 65% of its funding from individual donors. Of the funding received, 86% goes directly into vital programs and patient services. To date, the Meso Foundation has funded $9 million in mesothelioma research. With a low cost of operation, only 5% of the Meso Foundation’s funding goes towards management expenses.

Mesothelioma is a malignant tumor of the lining of the lung, abdomen, or heart known to be caused by exposure to asbestos. Medical experts consider it one of the most aggressive and deadly of all cancers. An estimated one-third of those who develop mesothelioma were exposed while serving in the Navy or working in shipyards.
