Galvanize Launches Exclusive Apprenticeship Program in Partnership with Pivotal Labs
San Francisco, CA (PRWEB) July 23, 2014 -- Galvanize, a network of urban campuses for digital innovators and entrepreneurs that combines education, experience and industry under one roof, and Pivotal Labs, the agile services unit of Pivotal and a leader in highly disciplined agile software development practices, today announced the formation of an exclusive apprenticeship program offered through Galvanize’s gSchool that provides students with real-world job experience working full-time alongside Pivotal Labs engineers.
Pivotal Labs at gSchool offers students the opportunity to apply their technology development and coding skills to practical software development for Pivotal Labs clients.
“Some of the top brands in the world hire Pivotal Labs to develop their mobile and web solutions and their engineers are among the best and brightest in the industry, making Pivotal Labs the perfect partner for a gSchool apprenticeship program,” said Jim Deters, CEO of Galvanize. “Students will help write real software for real clients, and deliver value to real customers, further enhancing the gSchool experience.”
During the last phase of the gSchool program, all students will work onsite at Pivotal Labs, providing them with an apprenticeship at no extra cost. Students will receive the guidance and support they need from gSchool instructors and staff while “pairing” with Pivotal Labs engineers, just as developers operate in a real work setting known as Pair Programming. gSchool students will graduate with experience delivering production-level code on real projects to showcase to potential employers.
“Pivotal Labs at gSchool will serve as a working job interview for students,” said Deters. “Pivotal Labs and its clients will get exposure to rising talent, while gSchool students receive invaluable hands-on experience with prospective employers.”
gSchool, which launched its first immersive developer training program in January 2013, is now on its fourth class and boasts a 98 percent placement rate. gSchool graduates have secured developer jobs at competitive employers including GoSpotCheck, Pivotal Labs and SendGrid. The upcoming fall class at Galvanize’s San Francisco campus will be the first to feature Pivotal Labs at gSchool, and all gSchool immersive programs across the entire Galvanize network of campuses will include the apprenticeship program by the end of the year. For students interested in enrolling, Galvanize is currently accepting applications for the coming gSchool class in San Francisco, which begins this fall and runs full-time for 24 weeks.
“Together, we’re taking developer education to the next level,” said Edward Hieatt, Chief Operating Officer of Pivotal Labs. “Pivotal Labs at gSchool enables students to apply the skills they’ve learned to deliver code on actual Pivotal Labs client projects, while also learning Pivotal Labs’ unique approach to agile software development including Pair Programming. This is a great opportunity for both us and our customers to access the newest breed of software developers, and provides a unique avenue for customers to engage with us.”
Galvanize announced last month that it has received $18 million in Series A funding that will go towards opening new campuses across the U.S. and significantly expanding gSchool, with plans to launch several new programs this fall. Galvanize is also growing its footprint in San Francisco with an expansion of its SoMa campus to 70,000 square feet, adding gSchool classroom, meeting and event spaces, including a 250-seat auditorium.

About gSchool
gSchool is the education operation at Galvanize, a network of urban campuses for digital innovators and entrepreneurs that aligns work and learning by combining education, experience and industry under one roof. gSchool students attend full-time, 24-week immersive developer training programs that help shape them into confident and employable developers who turn real business needs into exceptional software. Since launching its first campus in Denver in October 2012, Galvanize has expanded to San Francisco, California, and Boulder, Colorado, with more campuses due to open throughout the U.S. in 2014 and 2015. Each campus offers training and education opportunities, tech-focused events and a variety of workspace options.
