Gekks to Launch Liner for Boat Shoes and Loafers on Kickstarter
Manhattan, NY (PRWEB) March 05, 2014 -- Summer is just around the corner, presenting men and women who love fashionable closed-toe shoes with the annual quandary of how to deal with sweaty feet. Everything from boat shoes to loafers present the uncomfortable feeling and incredible stench associated with the problem. The creators at Gekks decided it was time to give people a way to wear their favorite shoes without medicated foot powder or inconvenient, uncomfortable low cut socks. Launching on Kickstarter on March 11, Gekks low cut liners deliver comfort, convenience and odor control for the sockless look with boat shoes, loafers, and more.
“We love the sockless look,” says Gekks Co-Founder Justin Arquilla, “Whether you’re wearing boat shoes with a pair of shorts or jeans with a pair of slip-on drivers, the look is classic and it’s never going to go out of style. We started thinking of a way we could make going sockless a more pleasant experience for people, and Gekks was born.”
Gekks are ultra-thin liner socks that go into any type of loafer style shoe. They lock in such that the user’s feet slide in and out comfortably without displacing the position of the liner. The patented design uses a combination of knitting techniques and a thin layer of adhesive gel to lock Gekks inside shoes. Still, the liners can be easily removed should they need to be transferred to other shoes or taken out for any reason and are also machine washable.
The key to Gekks’ anti-odor technology is in the material used to make them – powerful antimicrobial silver yarns made by X-Static®, a leader in anti-microbial and anti-odor protection. The same technology is used by NASA and the US Special Forces to keep gear fresh and bacteria free during long missions.
To explain how X-Static® technology works, one must first understand the nature of body odor. Sweat itself is odorless, but the stench is caused when naturally occurring bacteria on the body’s surface consume the sweat. To combat this process, X-Static® oxidizes and releases positively charged ions in response to the moisture caused by sweating. These silver ions become attracted to the negatively-charged bacteria, enter the cell membrane, and attack the bacteria’s DNA, stopping the bacteria and its odor in their tracks.
“Our goal was to create a product that would allow users to keep the convenience of slipping in and out of their boat shoes and loafers barefoot, but let them be comfortable and lose the stink when doing so,” says Arquilla.
These soft liners can be worn for extended periods of time with no discomfort and little to no odor. They will be available for purchase starting on March 11 on Kickstarter with a funding goal of $75,000 needed to manufacture the first round of Gekks. Early Bird pricing will start at $25 per pair. Sets and subscriptions for more pairs will also be available to backers.
