ATLANTA (PRWEB) June 02, 2015 -- Author Gerald Dougherty’s 2014 book, “Ann's Letters: A Newly Released Collection of Letters from the American Civil War” (published by iUniverse), is receiving a fresh marketing push for 2015.
Dougherty’s book is a collection of 32 letters dating back to the midst of the Civil War. The letters are well preserved and offer interesting information about the lifestyle and voice of people in this time period. Readers will learn about the lives of soldiers as well as their worried families at home.
“Ann’s Letters” features an image of each letter in its original form. Readers will be able to see the handwriting and spelling errors of a soldier on the battlefield. Following each letter, Dougherty provides a transcript of the letter to provide a more legible format to appreciate the message of the letter.
An excerpt from “Ann’s Letters”:
“We’re now in Georgia, near Kingston. We have halted here to wrest (sic) a day or two; and then we expect to resume our journey. Save yesterday, and today, we have not been from under the sound of the Cannon, for the last two weeks. We have not done much vary (sic) hard fighting, but have been skirmishing considerable. The rebs are in full retreat, and it is unknown to us, where they will make the next stand.”
“The family collection of letters had been saved for 150 years,” Dougherty says, “and I felt it should be returned to a more public domain to improve access by historians and others interested in the letters.”
