The Rotary Global 5K and Fun Walk is hosted by the Havre de Grace Rotary Club in the tradition of Rotary International's powerful legacy of supporting improvements in global health. Historically, Rotary International has contributed toward efforts to eradicate polio from the planet as well as provide clean drinking water in Africa and missions to surgically treat cleft palate (Rotoplast).
Proceeds from this fundraising athletic event will go toward helping West Africa strengthen its healthcare system in the wake of the devastating Ebola epidemic. A disturbing percentage of healthcare providers in West Africa have lost their lives to the Ebola virus, and much training and healthcare strengthening is needed to save lives and stop the spread of Ebola and other dangerous infections.
This event is co-sponsored by Doctors for United Medical Missions and the Johns Hopkins University ACCM Diversity Council. All proceeds from this event will go toward Johns Hopkins University programs for healthcare training in Ghana, Nigeria, Liberia, and Sierra Leone.
Preregistration for the event is $30 for the 5K and $25 for the 1-mile walk. Preregistration will increase by $5 on April 1st and again on the day of the event. Early registrants will be given a souvenir shirt.
Registration is available online at the Active Running registration site.
Those who are distant to the Maryland area can participate in this much-needed endeavor by joining the Virtual 5K. Virtual 5K registration can be initiated online at the Rotary Global Health 5K and Fun Run Web Portal.
Additional race information is available at the Rotary Global Health 5K and Fun Run Web Portal.
