Last year, over 300 restaurant industry leaders gathered in Dallas to discuss the issues that are most critical to success in their businesses today. Attendees included representatives from Cheesecake Factory, Texas Roadhouse, Famous Dave’s, Denny’s, The Palm Restaurant, Dominos, Darden Restaurants and Brinker International. The event honored Kent Taylor, CEO and Founder of Texas Roadhouse as the 2012 Legacy Award winner and recognized the best in class for human capital practices in their specific segments. Winners were BJ’s Restaurant and Brewhouse, Eat’n Park Restaurants, La Madeleine, LongHorn Steakhouse and White Castle.
"The People Report Best Practices Conference is a must-attend event for me, as it brings together a very unique cross section of foodservice industry leaders discussing topics not often covered at other industry events. It's a special niche worth all executive's time," said Sarah Lockyer, Editor in Chief Nation’s Restaurant News
This year’s event will recognize Gene Lee, President of the Specialty Restaurant Group at Darden as the 2013 Legacy Award Winner and once again honor and recognize Best Practice winners across five segments. Winners will be evaluated based on turnover, compensation, diversity and other workface practices as well as on their sales and traffic performance reported in their People Report and Black Box Intelligence data. Nominees for the 2013 Best Practices Awards will be announced in September.
Agenda will highlight industry leaders and business intelligence experts that will allow attendees to focus and gain perspective on the state of the restaurant industry as well as how best to move into the future successfully. Some of this year’s agenda includes: conference chair John Miller, CEO of Denny’s, Pick Up Stix founder Charlie Zhang, keynote speaker and author Ty Bennett, James Fripp, Senior Director of Global Diversity for YUM Brands, Frances Allen, Chief Marketing Officer of Denny’s and J. Walker Smith, Executive Chairman of The Futures Company. The event will also host their 7th annual community service project at the North Texas Food Bank and the 6th meeting of the Changers of Commerce group.
“This is a time of transformation for our industry, business and the world we inhabit. Our challenge is to rise to the occasion by changing the culture and our perspective on talent, technology and the trust we must earn from our employees, consumers and neighbors,” stated Black Box Intelligence chairman, and former casual dining CEO, Wally Doolin when asked to describe the conference objectives.
