Global Security Systems (GSS) Deploys ALERT FM for Bruce Power Customers
Lafayette, Louisiana (PRWEB) March 22, 2016 -- Global Security Systems, LLC (GSS) proudly announced today with Trispec Communications and Bruce Power the successful deployment of emergency alert system ALERT FM that includes integration of Alert Studio, GSS’s message origination portal, into Canada’s National Alert Aggregation and Dissemination System (“NAAD”). NAAD is a Common Alert Protocol (CAP)- based system that was launched is 2009 by Pelmorex as a component of the National Public Alerting System (“NPAS”). NAAD is similar to the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System (“IPAWS”) active in the United States.
“We currently have over 25 percent of our customer base using Alert Studio for IPAWS origination in the United States,” said Matthew Straeb, GSS executive vice president. “Based on our success in the US, it only made sense to expand Alert Studio so that it was compatible with Canada’s NAAD system. Trispec and Bruce Power were the perfect partners to help us achieve this goal.”
Bruce Power is located on 2300 acres and is the world’s largest operating nuclear facility. They employ over 4000 workers and are self- sustaining with their own 24/7 fire department, emergency response team, security, medical staff and works department. The site provides over 30 percent of Ontario’s electricity needs. In 2014 as part of Bruce Power’s continuous efforts to keep their employees and customer informed in the event of an emergency situation, they implemented GSS’s ALERT FM system. ALERT FM uses the data subcarrier of local FM radio stations to transmit emergency messages to fixed and portal receivers. As part of this initial project, Bruce Power supported the local municipality by distributing over 3000 ALERT FM receivers to local households surrounding the plant.
“Alert FM provides a seamless method for the public and our employees to receive quick, reliable information in the event of a natural or man-made disaster,” Frank Saunders, Bruce Power VP Nuclear Oversight and Regulatory Affairs, said. “The use of ALERT FM with connectivity to the NAAD is a great addition to our emergency notification capabilities and Alert Studio provides the perfect interface to disseminate this critical information across both contact paths.”
Alert Studio provides a user-friendly web-based interface that allows NAAD approved users to quickly send information to the public and other agencies via various contact paths which include:
• National Public Alerting System (“NPAS”): information distributed across radio and television stations
• Coast Guard/Weather Radios: information distributed to weather radios via weather radio towers
• Wireless Public Alerts (“WPA”): information distributed to compatible US and Canadian smartphones via cellular networks
“We were happy to help facilitate the implementation of ALERT FM and Alert Studio into Canada. Having worked with GSS on past projects, we were familiar with their Alert Studio software and knew that NAAD would seamlessly integrate into it,” Nigel Smith, Trispec Communications Director of Technology Development, said. “ALERT FM and Alert Studio benefit both Canada and the United States aiding in the ability to provide cross-border communication in the event of a multi-country emergency situation.”
