Green Demolitions: Healing People and the Planet
Matawan, NJ (PRWEB) August 31, 2013 -- Green Demolitions is a luxury commercial surplus and donated kitchen supplier located in Greenwich, Connecticut. The company also sells donated home décor, appliances and bathroom fixtures. Green Demolitions collects these items from homes being renovated or demolished across the nation and sells them at discounts of up to 90 percent. Donations to the company are used to benefit Recovery Unlimited, a program that promotes recycling of unwanted luxury items. The program provides jobs for those employed in removing, transporting and re-selling discarded luxury items and helps to stimulate the economy by providing cost-effective supplies for those who are planning a renovation project for their homes.
Green Demolitions was founded in 2005 by former drug addict Steve Feldman. Feldman grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York and abused both drugs and alcohol. He suffered from two instances of suicidal depression before he received addiction treatment during his early adult career. He worked in the radio industry for 18 years and eventually became the senior marketing manager for two Clear Channel Providence RI radio stations, WWRX-FM and B101. Feldman left the radio business in 1998 to help raise funds for the organizations that helped him with his addiction problems. During the course of his travels, Feldman read about a successful businessman by the name of Brewster Kopp. Kopp, the former CEO of First Bank Boston and Digital Corporation, resided in Connecticut and is now spending 90 percent of his time in raising funds for non-profit organizations. Feldman contacted Kopp and began working with one of his foundations in 1999.
Shortly after the financial market crash of 2001, Feldman drove by the former residence of the last empress of Iran, Farah Pahlavi. The gates to the 10,000-square-foot Rockefeller mansion were open and Feldman entered. The house had been demolished, but Feldman had an idea. He decided to start a demolitions donation program and earn the money for his charitable donations instead of asking for it, and Green Demolitions was born. In seven years, the company has grown to 30 employees and has opened stores in New Jersey, New York and Pennsylvania. Green Demolitions has donated over $1 million to charitable establishments since 2005.
Recycling unwanted kitchen items can save tax money as well as the environment. A couple in Fair Haven, New Jersey wanted to renovate their kitchen. They were originally going to strip the kitchen, discard the old materials and start afresh, but because they chose Green Demolitions, the couple was able to get a tax credit for their donated kitchen. This was the first time Stone Creek Builders partnered with Green Demolitions and it certainly will not be the last.
