Grinnell Mutual Announces Finalists for Working Together Making It Better Grants
Grinnell, Iowa (PRWEB) November 03, 2015 -- Ten community projects are finalists in Grinnell Mutual’s Working Together Making It Better grant initiative. Now they need your votes!
The public is invited to vote for project finalists on the company’s Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/myGrinnellMutual. With help from its Facebook fans, Grinnell Mutual will distribute $3,500 in grants to three nonprofit organizations.
“People living and working in rural areas know what it takes to make a community a better place,” said Director of Advertising and Community Relations Barb Baker. “Each vote on Grinnell Mutual’s Facebook page will help decide which projects will receive one of the three grants.”
Working Together Making It Better recognizes the efforts of people across rural communities who are working to enhance their town facilities and landmarks, support their neighbors, and educate their children. These grants are Grinnell Mutual’s way of celebrating community collaboration and recognizing innovative community projects.
Working Together Making It Better finalists
Fit Kids Running Club in Ravenna, Ohio, wants to help kids learn a healthy lifestyle. The group recruits 30 children each year to to participate in a seven-week physical training program that culminates in running a local 2-mile race. Funds will help purchase running shoes and socks, nutritious snacks, and registration fees.
Get-2-Gether (G2G) in Decorah, Iowa, holds social events for special needs adults within a 60-mile radius. G2G events are offered at no cost to participants and the funds will be used to pay for games, entertainment, food, and prizes for G2G events.
Tower to Table in Fulton, Mo., is a program of Heartland Church of the Nazarene youth group. The group volunteers at the soup kitchen and has started a traditional dirt garden to grow produce for the kitchen. Funds will be used to create an additional “tower garden,” which will produce indoors year-round.
1914 Opera House Marquee Restoration project plans to restore the historic Opera House marquee located in Cresco, Iowa. The Opera House serves the community as a theater, gathering place, and a source of civic pride.
Nebraska City Ball Field Improvement Association in Nebraska City, Neb., will use the grant money to update and improve five baseball/softball fields.
Clay Center in Roseville, Ohio, is planning a marketing and advertising campaign to help attract tourists to the town famous for its pottery-making, which dates back to the 1800s. The town was once called the pottery capital of the world.
Regional Learning and Cultural Center (RLCC) in West Liberty, Iowa is an innovative space being designed and built to promote extended learning and entrepreneurial opportunities. The RLCC will be completed in March 2016 and will offer three classrooms, college courses, and certification programs through Muscatine Community College.
#refreshMTC of Mount Carmel, Ill., is working to enhance Market Street in Mount Carmel. The project will provide pedestrian sidewalk seating.
Snackpac of Henry, Ill., provides food for children who are at risk of being hungry outside of school. Funds will be used to buy supplies for weekend food packages.
Ada Natural Play Space is a park design for the town of Ada, Minn., that will significantly add to the appeal of an existing park in Ada. The funds will be used to help create nature play settings to attract a wide range of children of different ages, social-economic-ethnic backgrounds, and gender.

The three finalists with the most votes will receive $2,000, $1,000, and $500, respectively, and the winners will be announced on Nov. 18. Vote for your favorite now!
