Harry Rady Proud of Rady Children’s Hospital Continued Growth
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) January 06, 2014 -- The Rady Children’s Hospital recently reported that it has had a remarkable year. One of the more staggering accomplishments of the leading pediatric health care provider has been its fundraising campaign. From an original goal of $220 million, the Rady Children’s Hospital managed to raise over $229 million. The hospital credits the phenomenal support it has received from a wide cross section of San Diego. Among them are the 7,242 gifts from the business sector, the 265,000 volunteers who donated their time for the success of the campaign, and generous million-dollar donations from several prominent families.
The donations have enabled the Rady Children’s Hospital to dramatically improve facilities and create programs that focus on excellent patient care and advanced technologies. Apart from constructing the $260-million Acute Care Pavilion, purchasing the kid-friendly MRI, and funding innovative researches such as Dr. John Crawford’s discovery into the causes of pediatric brain tumor, the Rady Children’s Hospital has also been able to invest in IT infrastructure that enhance patient safety and allow for integration between hospitals, patients, physicians, and the community. This accomplishment has given the children’s hospital its “Most Wired” status for a second year in a row.
Hospitals recognized with the “Most Wired” status by the Hospitals and Health Networks are hailed for exemplifying progress through innovation. This is not just determined through the purchase and installation of new technologies but also in demonstrating meaningful use of IT tools.
Harry Rady commented, “I am very proud of the IT team and all of the hard work that goes into receiving awards like this.”
Rady Children’s Hospital is a not for profit hospital that exists due to the generous donations from their community and the services they provide for children’s health care. They are one of the few nonprofit organizations that pay less than 1 percent in executive compensation.
The generous contributions to the hospital are but 22 percent of the institution’s income. The rest is generated by its health care services and financial investments. This varied income allows them to continue to expand their operations and offer more services for children in their community and throughout the country.
As the primary pediatric health care provider in the city, the Rady Children’s Hospital also strives to come up with more innovative medical programs. This year, the children’s hospital collaborated with Qualcomm Wireless Reach on a 3G-enabled kit to monitor activities of asthmatic children. The move to personalize asthma therapy for children is said to cut down on treatment costs and improve outcomes, which may mean reduced serious asthmatic attacks.
The Rady Children’s Hospital has some 700 physicians and 1,000 nurses on staff. This year, its inpatient admissions so far reached 17,000, and its outpatient visits numbered to 200,000; 12,000 of those visits were directed to the hospital’s pediatric cardiology clinics. Meanwhile, 60,000 children were treated in the hospital’s orthopedic clinics.
Rady Children’s Hospital continues to be an important part of research in the field of pediatrics and the only pediatric trauma center in the San Diego, California area … it also serves as a teaching hospital for future pediatricians.
