Hart Cunningham Announces Plan to Strengthen America's Military
ANNAPOLIS, Md. (PRWEB) May 29, 2018 -- "Given all that our military service members provide for us," states 2020 presidential candidate Hart Cunningham, "it is only just that the United States better support its military." While expressing his gratitude for the servicemen and women of the armed forces, 2020 presidential candidate Hart Cunningham recalled a 2009 speech about generational leadership at the Naval Academy. In that speech, he created the foundation for what today are 10 initiatives he would take as President of the United States to better serve the military’s service members, who do so much for both America and their families.
Cunningham’s grandfather served as a sonar technician in the Navy and later led his family out of the lowest economic class into the middle class. This granted Cunningham’s family “opportunities to provide for others, to be humanitarian with our efforts, spend the weekends in church, and think about the ways in which the world operates and can improve.”
In appreciation of the similar sacrifice so many of America’s servicemen and women make for their families, and out of recognition that 21st century America is in many ways more difficult than in the 20th century, a Cunningham administration would supply and recruit more modern, higher quality equipment and personnel, while also supporting service members during their transition into civilian life and beyond. The Cunningham administration’s priorities include:
- Greater Compensation and Improved Healthcare – Given rising costs of living, military service members must receive higher compensation and quality healthcare.
- Enhancing Technological Capacity – We are being beaten by Russia and China, largely because of the “separation between private and public sector technology costing a lot of money in bureaucracy.” Linked to that, Cunningham called for greater technological expertise to combat the “wars of tomorrow, on computers, phones, drones.”
- Educating the World on Climate Change – Cunningham was direct in his advocacy that, “Climate science needs to be studied and addressed, with more humanitarian efforts by our military from the 800 military bases across the US.”
- Less Nuclear Arms – “Why do we want to spend another $2 trillion making more of them?” queried Cunningham, who explained that we already “have 4,000 pounds of weapons-grade plutonium that’s sitting around.”
Respecting Military Service Members with Intelligent Investment
Cunningham highlighted his belief that, “We have the finest soldiers in the world!” Still, he recognized that America is neglecting one of its invaluable resources.
In addition to greater investment in technological capabilities and focusing on climate change education, Cunningham wanted to invest primarily in America’s greatest resource: its people. Addressing service members directly, he stated, “You should be sought after in the private sector – you should have a 6-figure job with healthcare, not wondering about your next steps. The only way that’s going to happen is if we put the infrastructure in place.”
