HD Golf & Volleyball…A New Trend in Sportsplexes?
Detroit, MI (PRWEB) July 24, 2013 -- Like most major cities, Detroit has Sportplexes. But entrepreneurs Adam Zimmerman and Vonda Widmer recognized the city was missing out on a new breed of these large facilities, those combining a somewhat unlikely pair – indoor golf and beach volleyball.
“You typically don’t think of these sports together. But both can be enjoyed by all ages and skill levels. They both have mass appeal,” says Zimmerman. Another big factor he says is that together they cover all seasons. “In the summer beach volleyball pulls in the crowds and in the winter it’s the HD Golf simulators,” says Zimmerman
Only one month after opening its doors, business is already booming at On The Dunes. Located in Commerce Township, a suburb of Detroit, the new facility features 10 championship beach volleyball courts, 8 state-of-the-art HD Golf™ simulators, and a full service indoor/outdoor bar and restaurant. The facility also offers fitness classes like beach yoga and boot camp and golf lessons.
Having visited other successful facilities, Zimmerman says they knew the business would be a success, but are still a bit surprised by how quickly it flourished. The weeknight leagues and weekend tournaments are drawing volley ball players from all across greater Detroit. This winter as golf courses close down, he says they will be just as busy with golfers looking to keep up their game.
Another surprise for the two entrepreneurs was the popularity of the golf simulators, even in summer. “After their volleyball matches, patrons move indoors for food, drinks and to play HD Golf,” says Zimmerman. He says the systems are often booked until 2 am in the morning. “We’ve invested in the same systems being used by PGA Tour Pros – this is as good as it gets for indoor golf,” says Zimmerman. “Even non-golfers are having a blast.”
