HIMSS’ Patient Engagement Summit Will Highlight Role in Population Health
San Diego, CA (PRWEB) September 15, 2015 -- Now with an impressive lineup of speakers from Geisinger Health, Mayo Clinic, Johns Hopkins and more, the HIMSS Patient Engagement Summit will open an important new dialogue in healthcare this fall. Tackling not one, but two hot-button issues in healthcare–patient engagement and population health–the summit will help thought leaders from across the nation make critical connections between how they converse with patients and the mass behavior change required to achieve improvements in population health.
“Patient engagement is an essential tool for improving health outcomes, and reducing costs, in today’s high-pressure era of value-based care,” said John Whelan, executive vice president of HIMSS Media. “Our Patient Engagement Summit will bring together experts from leading payer and provider organizations to illuminate what’s working and what needs to come next if we want to better serve patients, and ultimately populations.”
Patient engagement hinges on the imprecise science of human behavior. Through in-depth case studies, keynotes and panel discussions, experts will shed light on the role of everything from consumerism and mobile culture, to empathy and irrationality, in motivating behavior change. A double session on October 13 will delve into engagement for three key populations: women and children, older adults and the chronically ill. As with all HIMSS forums, attendees can expect practical, solutions-based takeaways as well as ample opportunity for Q&As and peer-to-peer networking.
