Industry Analyst Jeff Kagan on Google Fiber Expanding to 9 Metro Areas
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Google will expand their ultrafast Google Fiber in competition with the baby bells and cable television companies, says the San Jose Mercury News, Feb 20.
Industry analyst Jeff Kagan offers comment.
“When Google started down this path a few years ago I think they just wanted to make a point. They wanted to say to the Internet access industry in the United States, see ultra fast Internet is possible and cities and customers do want it. They wanted to prove it. So they started in Kansas City. And it worked,” says Tech analyst Jeff Kagan.
“Since that time ultra high speed Internet access is starting to catch on. We have seen quite a bit of activity from competitors like AT&T in Austin Texas, C Spire in Mississippi and several others are joining the party on a regular basis,” says Technology analyst Kagan.
“C Spire held a contest and had interested cities explain why they would be the best first high speed city. As it turned out many Mississippi cities wanted this ultra high speed Internet access. C Spire surprised us by announcing several cities would become the first high speed cities in Mississippi,” says principal analyst Kagan.
“This high speed Internet access is really starting to catch on with cities and individuals. I think it will be one of the important competitive waves going forward. Will Google continue to be a competitor going forward?” asked Kagan.
“Will Google continue down this high speed gigabit path? I think Google will stay in this space long enough to have growth and competition really take on a life of its own. Then I don’t see them continuing. I see them selling their cities to one of the competitors. But who really knows? Stranger things have happened,” says Kagan.
“I think this high speed Internet market will explode with growth over the next several years. We will see lot’s of growth from lot’s of companies. It may have started with Google’s impatience, but it was in the works and this next race was getting ready to start. Now it has started,” says Kagan.
