Ingram's Vital Source Earns LTI 2.0 Conformance Certification
Nashville, TN (PRWEB) February 20, 2014 -- Vital Source Technologies, Inc., a global leader in building, enhancing and delivering e-learning content, today announced that is has earned Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) 2.0 conformance certification from the IMS Global Learning Consortium (IMS), enhancing the company's ability to create highly customized e-textbook integrations.
Vital Source is the first company to attain this level of conformance. Vital Source has played an active role in the development of LTI tool standards to improve educational participation and attainment.
“Transitioning the education sector to open technical standards requires strong leadership, and no organization has shown stronger leadership in the development of LTI v2 than Vital Source,” said Dr. Rob Abel, Chief Executive of IMS. “LTI v2 is a true breakthrough for educational institutions at all levels because it enables automated 1-click integration of a wide variety of educational apps and digital content with the educational enterprise - and Vital Source's leadership has been a key factor in realizing LTI v2.”
LTI is a widely used global technical standard for educational applications and provides a common way to plug applications into learning management software and learning management systems (LMS). Vital Source has used LTI 1.0 standards to integrate its VitalSource Bookshelf® e-textbook platform with hundreds of learning institutions for the last two years.
The new LTI 2.0 standard provides Vital Source with increased interoperability functionality and provides tools to create plug and play services that expand integration points of the platform. The new standard allows simplified partner self-registration, enhanced data integration, the storage of adopted textbook information within courses, expanded subscription capabilities and the ability to snap in new services as they become available without having to wait for a revision to the entire standard.
“LTI standards create better connectivity of e-textbooks, learning tools and applications, which helps technology work seamlessly to meet the needs of publishers, instructors and students,” said Kent Freeman, Chief Operating Officer, Vital Source Technologies, Inc. “We are happy to support this new key development of IMS.”
As new Learning Management System systems develop LTI 2.0 integration capabilities, Vital Source offers a no-cost LTI 2.0 e-textbook service for all IMS member companies that develop their own LTI 2.0 interface and are working to attain LTI 2.0 conformance.
The VitalSource Bookshelf platform is the most used e-textbook delivery platform in higher education with more than four million users across 6,000 campuses around the world. It uses the latest technology to enhance the learning experience through e-textbooks and digital education.
