iPatientCare EHR Complies with the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR)
Detroit, MI, (PRWEB) December 04, 2013 -- iPatientCare, Inc., a pioneer in mHealth and cloud-based ambulatory EHR and integrated Practice Management solutions announced successful compliance of its EHR by the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) to submit and receive immunization information between the EHR system and MCIR. This would also help iPatientCare users meet Meaningful Use requirements in both Stage 2 and draft proposed recommendations for Stage 3.
For over a decade, iPatientCare users have had the capability to send vaccination information electronically to the Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR). Recent initiatives by the Michigan Department of Community Health (MDCH) have focused on enabling such transfers to take place in real-time through automated connections between practices' electronic health record (EHR) systems and the MCIR using transactions conforming to industry-standard HL7 messages. The same standards-based messaging approach can be used to send a patient's complete vaccine history from MCIR to practices' EHRs to achieve bidirectional interoperability. Enabling such standards-based exchanges between EHRs and MCIR will enable wide participation by practices, permitting information for all vaccine doses to be available for immediate use in both systems in real time.
“iPatientCare provides a bidirectional interface between Electronic Health Record and the State of Michigan’s Community Immunization Record which will definitely make workflow easier at our providers’ offices. By documenting immunizations in real-time, iPatientCare supports the vision of MCIR, as outlined, to reduce vaccine preventable diseases and over-vaccination. The Michigan Care Improvement Registry also works community-wide to track immunizations administered during a public health emergency. This is a very unique achievement and we are very proud of having achieved this compliance with MCIR,” said Shahab Shaikh, Enterprise Integration Specialist, iPatientCare.

About MCIR:
The Michigan Care Improvement Registry (MCIR) was created in 1998 to collect reliable immunization information and provide online accessibility to authorized users. In 2006, MCIR was expanded to include adults. MCIR benefits health care providers, health care organizations, pharmacies, schools, licensed childcare programs and Michigan’s citizens by consolidating immunization information from multiple sources. This consolidation reduces vaccine-preventable diseases and over-vaccination. MCIR also has the capability to track vaccines and medications during a public health emergency, such as pandemic influenza.
