IT Jobs Down 52 Percent in May, According to Employment Report
Atlanta, GA (PRWEB) July 08, 2016 -- IT employment decreased by 52 percent in May, dropping from 29,000 jobs in April to 13,900 jobs, according to a report of preliminary numbers released by the U.S Bureau of Labor Statistics’ Economic Situation Report on Friday, June 3, 2016.
Over the last 12 months, the multiple sectors that form the IT industry has increased by 3 percent overall, from 4,515,600 jobs in May 2015 to 4,652,000 jobs in May 2016. IT job data is collected from multiple sectors, including the data processing, hosting and related services subsector, the computer anubnjd electronic product manufacturing subsector, the computer systems design and related services subsector, and the management and technical consulting services subsector.
The data processing, hosting and related services sector gained 100 jobs for the second straight month. The subsector now sits at 298,400 jobs, up 1 percent from 295,500 jobs in May 2015. This industry data includes computer programmers, computer support specialists, computer systems analysts, application developers, and systems software developers.
The computer and electronic product manufacturing subsector lost 800 jobs in May. The subsector, which includes computer hardware engineers, computer software engineers (applications and systems software), electrical and electronic engineering technicians and equipment assemblers, and semiconductor processors, now sits at 1,042,300 employed workers, down 1 percent from 1,053,100 in May 2015.
Computer systems design and related services gained 7,400 jobs in May, a slight decrease from the 8,600 jobs gained in April 2016. The subsector, which is a part of the professional and business services sector, now sits at 1,985,700 jobs.
The management and technical consulting services subsector gained 7,200 jobs in May, a drop of 64 percent from the 20,100 jobs gained in April. The subsector now sits at 1,985,700 employed workers.
