FORT WORTH, TEXAS (PRWEB) October 03, 2014 -- JC KPL, LLC (JC KPL) was named Dallas/Fort Worth’s “Developer of the Year” by the Greater Fort Worth Builders Association (GFWBA) at the Association's annual awards ceremony on September 29, 2014. JC KPL is honored to be recognized for its innovative and sustainable development practices.
JC KPL is best known for its ongoing development of the Viridian master planned community in Arlington. The 2,000 acre community, held up as an example of responsible and sustainable development, includes 600 acres of parks and open space. The community has been designed so that no home is more than 700 feet from a new park or open space. Viridian is the top-selling master planned community in Tarrant County and ranked as seventh among all Dallas/Fort Worth master planned communities.
JC KPL's principals include Robert (Bob) Kembel, Howard Porteus and Al Linley.
Mr. Kembel has been a member of the Congress for New Urbanism and Urban Land Institute along with various trade and builder organizations. He was a regular speaker at the Lee Evans Conferences on builder risk throughout the 1990s and has been a member of the C12 Group for the past seven years. He is a past board member of the Brent Eley Foundation in Denver, Colorado. Mr. Kembel currently serves on: the Cotton Bowl Board; the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Board and several of its committees, including Executive, Finance, and Personnel; the River Legacy Park Foundation Board; and the Liberty Christian School Board and Master Plan Committee. He also runs the youth wrestling program for Liberty Christian School and actively volunteers for Mission Arlington.
Mr. Porteus began his 30-year career in real estate construction and development upon graduation from the University of Stony Brook. He has served in operating and executive management positions in the homebuilding industry, building 3,500 homes in several metropolitan markets. In addition, he developed commercial real estate in Colorado and in Texas, including Elkhorn Lodge in Beaver Creek. Since 2007, he has been active in all aspects of the real estate development business including acquisition, entitlement, financial sourcing, development, and marketing/sales. While employed at Huffines Communities Mr. Porteus was primary in the development of Hebron 121 Station in Lewisville, a mixed-use, transit-oriented development with 1,750 residential units and 275,000 commercial square feet.
Mr. Linley formerly served as Chief Operating Officer at Huffines Communities, Inc. He is responsible for the oversight and conduct of the day-to-day operations of JC KPL with over thirty-seven years of "hands on" experience. His background includes 15 years of management consulting, including the big 8 accounting firm of Touche, Ross & Company, and his own firms, primarily serving the financial services and real estate industries. His real estate expertise was refined through positions held at the Paragon Group. Mr. Linley received both BA and MBA degrees from the University of Kansas in Lawrence, Kansas.
The GFWBA recognizes professionals who create superior developments that are sensitive to the community and make appropriate use of the existing natural elements. Award recipients have demonstrated excellence in land development design and quality, and have contributed greatly to the land development industry.
