LAVA Unveils New Internet-of-Things Connectivity Solution

LIPS is the first solution to offer up to 12 simultaneous TCP or UDP connections for simple, low-cost electronic devices, significantly expanding possible IoT functions and capabilities. Now even the smallest of embedded systems, such as single function sensors, can serve web pages, send emails and SMS alerts, transmit data to servers, and communicate with other sensors or systems, at a fraction of the engineering effort and cost of what was previously possible.

LIPS can be easily integrated into new or existing designs with a LAVA IP System Engine (LIPE) module, chip, or board. The LIPE hardware manages all the Internet communication for a potential device and is controlled using a dead-simple command protocol, essentially eliminating the requirement for advanced TCP/IP engineering knowledge. The offloading also enables the use of a modest, inexpensive user microprocessor, and the user's programming language of choice, further reducing development and build costs.
LIPS is intended for devices needing rapid development, multiple network connections, modest sensor and communication requirements, and no limits on the nature of the data being transferred. Potential applications include light switches, data loggers, environment sensors (such as temperature), door monitors, or even the "intelligent" toaster.
