Denver, Colorado (PRWEB) February 21, 2014 -- Romantic balladeer Lionel Richie crooned his way to the top after starting out as a singer and sax player with the Commodores in 1968.
Fueling the funky and soulful Motown sound, he scored early success with easy-listening ballads such as "Easy" and "Three Times a Lady”, and today is probably best known for “All Night Long” and “Hello”, both mega hits of the 1980s.
After years in an active but relatively relaxed groove, the singer is amping things up a bit again, thanks to the recent success of his tenth studio album released in 2012. Based on ticket sales, fans are easy with that.
Last year, the singer/songwriter toured for the first time in ten years. This year, he’s hitting the road again with the second North American leg of his All the Hits All Night Long Tour.
While Richie is currently performing in Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Indonesia and Dubai, he returns to the continent to open a 35-date swing through all major markets at the Rogers Arena in Vancouver on May 29, 2014.
Currently the wrap is set for the Bethel Woods center for the Arts in Bethel, New York on August 2, 2014.
“With his iconic ballads, Lionel Richie has a fan base that is six decades strong. His popularity is off the charts not only in the Americas, but around the world as well. Born in Tuskegee, Alabama on June 20, 1949, Richie formed a succession of R&B groups in the mid-1960s. In 1968, he became a singer and saxophonist with the Commodores and his career in the spotlight began.
After embarking on a solo career in 1982, his second solo album, Can't Slow Down, won two Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year, propelling him into the first rank of international superstars.
The album contained the #1 hit "All Night Long" a Caribbean-flavored dance number that was promoted by a colorful music video produced by former Monkee Michael Nesmith. In 1984, Richie performed "All Night Long" at the closing ceremony of the XXIII Olympic Games in Los Angeles.
Several more Top 10 hits followed, the most successful was the ballad "Hello" (1984), a sentimental love song that showed the artist's versatility outside of his traditional R&B roots. Richie had three more top ten hits in 1984. He also collaborated with Michael Jackson on the charity single "We Are the World" by USA for Africa, another #1 hit.
In 2012, Richie released his tenth studio album, Tuskegee, featuring 13 of his hit songs performed as duets with country stars such as Sugarland’s Jennifer Nettles, Jason Aldean, Tim McGraw, Blake Shelton, Darius Rucker, Rascal Flatts, Kenny Chesney, Billy Currington, Little Big Town, Shania Twain, Kenny Rogers, Willie Nelson and Jimmy Buffett.
After years of low sales in the U.S., the album returned Richie to the top of the Billboard 200 chart with his first #1 album in more than 25 years. It achieved Platinum status within six weeks of release. Then, in June of 2013, Richie announced his first North American tour in over a decade.
CeeLo Green, a singer-songwriter, rapper, record producer and actor, rose to prominence as a member of the southern hip hop group Goodie Mob, and as part of the soul duo Gnarls Barkley, with record producer Danger Mouse. With five Grammys under his belt, he’s currently moonlighting as a talent show judge on The Voice.
