(PRWEB UK) 16 October 2013 -- Housing 21, a leading provider of housing for older people, has been granted planning permission for a new extra care housing scheme in Long Eaton.
The new development, which is to be built on part of the former Long Eaton School, will be provided by Housing 21 in partnership with Derbyshire County Council to provide 61 one and twobedroom apartments for rent and shared ownership for people aged 55 and over. It will also provide a specialist residential care unit with16 en-suite rooms and a day centre facility which will be run by Derbyshire County Council to provide a range of accommodation, care and support for local people.
The scheme has been designed to create a welcoming community offering extensive facilities including a residents' lounge, restaurant, hairdressing salon, health and wellbeing room, activities/hobbies room, guest suite and assisted bathroom.
Karen Lewis, Regional Operations Director for Housing 21 said "We are delighted that planning permission has been granted and look forward to delivering this exciting new development. Extra care housing is an increasingly popular choice for older people because it allows them to enjoy independent living with the security of care and support."
Derbyshire County Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Care Councillor Clare Neill said: “The great thing about this development is that, in addition to apartments, it has residential care which will be owned and managed by Derbyshire County Council. This is a model for future developments.”
Housing 21 and Derbyshire County Council are working closely with Erewash Borough Council on the Tamworth Road development, which will complete in 2015.
The scheme is being delivered as part of Housing 21’s Approved Development Programme with the Homes and Communities Agency. The architect is Glancy Nicholls and Keepmoat will be handling the construction.
