Major Collection of Surrealist Art Discovered
Miami, Florida (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- AffordableArt101 Fine Prints announced the acquisition of a collection of original prints by important Surrealist artists. Gallery owner Roger Walton explains there are twenty-five pieces in all. "This was a very lucky find!" says Walton, "These are fine examples of Surrealist art and in excellent condition. We don't see many others currently on the market but they are surprisingly affordable."
The prints were executed for a project conceived by Marcel Duchamp and Andre Breton on the theme of "Surrealism in 1947". The concept was to showcase new works from printmakers associated with the Surrealist school of art, a movement which seemed particularly relevant in the aftermath of World War II. Important artists from the United States, Europe and Latin America were invited to contribute original prints.
These prints are original works of art on paper and include eighteen lithographs, five etchings and two woodcuts. They are not modern reproductions but are the actual original prints issued in 1947 and are rare today. "A print is considered to be an original work of art", Walton explains, "if the artist creates the design directly onto the stone, plate or wood block, which is then inked and printed onto paper."
The photo at right shows "The Hand Hat" by German artist Hans Bellmer. In addition, there is a highly sought-after Miro lithograph, two woodcuts by the Dada artist Jean Hans Arp and original lithographs and etchings by Yves Tanguy, Maria Cerminova Toyen, Kay Sage, Alexander Calder, Maria Martins, Julio de Diego, Victor Brauner, Jacques Herold, Roberto Sebastian Matta, Elisabeth van Damme, Bruno Capacci, Wifredo Lam, David Hare, Man Ray, Serge Brignoni, Enrico Donati, Jacqueline Lamba, Marcel Jean, Dorothea Tanning and Max Ernst.
These artworks round out an already robust selection of Surrealist art at AffordableArt101. In addition to these authentic mid-20th Century examples of Surrealism, the online gallery features many styles and genres of original art prints, including Impressionism, Expressionism, Cubism, Abstract Expressionism and Pop Art. "It's been a great summer for new acquisitions", says Walton, "including some nice Chagall lithographs, Kandinsky woodcuts and some interesting pieces by Picasso, Renoir and Matisse, just to name a few."
AffordableArt101.com is among the pioneers of a growing trend of galleries selling exclusively online, offering stiff competition to traditional "bricks-and-mortar" galleries. According to Walton, "With lower overhead costs we can offer the same pieces as other dealers but at much lower prices. You can find us online at http://www.affordableart101.com.";
