Los Angeles, CA (PRWEB) June 25, 2014 -- Vampire Diaries star Malese Jow sits down with AfterBuzz TV host, Jason Ikeler, to discuss her venture into music. While she’s dabbled in the music scene in the past, Jow reveals how she’s come into her own as a songwriter. “Now that I’m in my 20s, I’m more secure; I know who I am – I’m a writer. So, it’s easier now.”
Jow, who is currently unsigned, says she’s taking her time to put together a piece of work that feels authentic to her. “Right now I’m really enjoying the creative freedom and performing wherever I want, writing whatever I want, and working with whoever I want.” As for the sound of her music, she says, “It will have that (country) feel, but not necessarily the twang. But in my writing I like being very vulnerable, very raw.”
Jow credits Kacey Musgraves as one of her biggest influences saying, “She’s amazing; I love her writing. It’s quirky, clever but very real too. It’s very grounded and she’s a huge inspiration; I’d love to sit with her and pick her brain.” That sound is evident in her new song, “Dear Lover,” which Jow debuts on AfterBuzz TV. The song is about falling in love for the first time and she wrote it about her boyfriend, who accompanies her on guitar during the performance.
Jow also reflects on her past acting gigs, including her break out role alongside Emma Roberts on Nickelodeon’s Unfabulous. “People don’t realize there’s a hundred of auditions before you book just one little thing. So you can imagine how many I went through to finally book that one gig, and it was life changing…being on Nickelodeon as a thirteen-year-old is the ultimate dream.”
