Somerset, Ky. (PRWEB) November 07, 2015 -- Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers is now open in Somerset at 2520 Monticello Street. This Mellow takes inspiration from all around Somerset–Lake Cumberland, Somernites Cruise, Master Musicians Festival and the region’s coal heritage, as well as the natural textures that are found all around the region, such as wood and stone, which serve to add warmth to the aesthetic of the restaurant overall.
Owners Hunt and Mandy Prather are thrilled to bring the fun brand of Mellow Mushroom to their favorite city: “We hope that everyone will see the restaurant as an extension of their family tables at home, a place where they can come to enjoy great food and spend quality time with their loved ones, all in a relaxed atmosphere. We want it to be a place where friends can meet for drinks after work, where families can come to enjoy a great meal in a kid-friendly atmosphere, and a place where people have fun, no matter their age or background.”
Mellow Mushroom’s menu showcases natural flavors and the freshest of ingredients in a creative menu assortment of pizzas, hoagies, salads, calzones, appetizers and vegetarian and vegan options. Gluten free crust and a kids menu are also available.
All Mellow Mushrooms are known as places that provide an entertaining experience in a unique, artistically decorated environment, and Mellow Somerset is no exception.
An aluminum barn quilt hangs on one outer wall of the restaurant. It is made in a traditional style with simple geometric shapes fashioned together to tell a story; this one tells the Mellow Mushroom story through representations of pizza slices.
In the ceiling of the private dining room hangs a large fish sculpture. Each fish is unique and surrounded by four light panels that change color and spell out the lyrics to The Grateful Dead song, “Ripple.” While there is a lot going on in the piece, it’s a very soothing sculpture, and the light from it plays off of the walls in the room, illuminating them with ripples.
The largest piece of art in the restaurant is “The Wizard.” Its inspiration came from a really beautiful painting of the Irish god, Nechtan, who was said to possess the secret “Well of Wisdom,” and only he was allowed to draw water from it. This wizard is a bit different and definitely mellow-fied as he’s there for everyone to enjoy, welcoming all of those fishing for pizza, drinks and a good time. Floating in his beard are VW bugs, frogs, fish and, of course, pizza and a pint or two of beer.
The full service bar features a wide array of craft beers, an extensive wine list and fresh, handcrafted cocktails. Catch day to day sporting events on one of the 13 TVs and every sports channel imaginable. There is an enclosed patio as well as an open air patio. A private dining room inside the restaurant, seats 34 and is available for rent. It features a 70” television with Microsoft capability for presentations or web browsing. Eventually Mellow will host a weekly trivia night and happy hour specials.
The contractor for Mellow Mushroom Somerset was locally owned Somerset company, DC Trimble. In addition to their staff of 18, the 5 1/2-month build employed 173 people across 52 subcontractors and vendors.
