Orlando (PRWEB) September 24, 2013 -- "Epics of a Man" (published by Trafford Publishing) by Freddie McSears Jr. is a uniquely crafted autobiographical depiction of a man’s journey through love, loss and personal triumph, clothed as a memoir to his son.
It was McSears’ own life as a parent that initiated this work. "Being a father, I realized I cannot protect my son from everything," says McSears. "I had to accept the fact my child would experience various inconveniences and would have to endure through them."
As the protagonist in "Epics of a Man" explains his life to his son ("if my son can learn from my successes, than he can equally learn from my mistakes"), McSears weaves an intimate story of honesty, while creating a hero who is as vulnerable as he is strong. As the protagonist winds through his memory, a philosophical approach to life is gradually revealed. "While some wait for life to happen and others only survive, Epics of Man is about living life in the driver’s seat," says McSears
McSears hopes this book will help men more frequently open up to their sons. "Many men do not talk to their children about the life they are living or have lived," says McSears. "Imagine the knowledge and wisdom that could be shared. All too often our children’s focus is on the destination because many cultures teach fathers to face challenges in silence as to not appear weak, leading our children to believe success and failure is as easy as heating food in a microwave. So much more could be learned if fathers would open up honestly about their own journey."
McSears is fond of the saying, ‘to thine own self be true,’ and positions his work to be a reflection of this mantra. "To have the strength and faith to be true to oneself, in spite of circumstances that may make that appear counterproductive, is a gift to be treasured and applied to life."
