Menlo College Athletics Honored for Fall Sport Success
Atherton, California (PRWEB) November 25, 2014 -- Postseason awards and honors are beginning to roll in for the Oaks of Menlo College -- members of the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) California Pacific (Cal Pac) Conference. Menlo College Athletics was recently honored as an NAIA Champions of Character institution for the fifth-straight year. The award takes into account character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, and character promotion.
The Oaks’ Volleyball and Women’s Soccer teams claimed Cal Pac titles and earned berths in the postseason National Championship tournament. The Oak’s Men’s Soccer team were regular season champions of the Cal Pac’s North Division. In addition to team successes, a slew of fall Oaks athletes have been honored for both their athletic prowess and academic aptitude with a number of postseason awards.
The Women’s Volleyball team claimed its third consecutive Cal Pac conference title this year, and placed six players on the All-Conference team -- headlined by Cal Pac Player of the Year and First Team All-Conference selection Courtney Calicdan (a senior from Honolulu, HI). Calicdan has been a First Team All-Conference performer for three consecutive years, and has twice been named the Cal Pac Player of the Year.
Joining Calicdan on the All-Conference list are Kelly Sung (a junior from San Francisco, CA) and Courtney Wong (a sophomore from Daly City, CA). Three members of the team were Honorable Mention honorees: Bailey Gamez (a freshman from Newark, CA) Renn Isobe (a sophomore from Honolulu, HI) and Jamie Nurenberg (a junior from Roseville, CA). The Oaks were led by head coach Atlee Frechette, who also earned honors as the Cal Pac’s Co-Coach of the Year.
Menlo College Women’s Soccer qualified for the National Championship tournament by winning their first Cal Pac title since 2007. In addition to the historic team accomplishment, a number of players received individual accolades, including Cal Pac Newcomer of the Year and First Team All-Conference honoree Brittany Squarcia (a junior from Sunnyvale, CA). Also named to an All-First Team selection was Kayla Cisneroz (a senior from Morgan Hill, CA). Cisneroz, who has started every game since her freshman season, earned First Team honors for the third consecutive season. Danielle McCarthy (a sophomore from Sacramento, CA) and Nina Lee (a freshman from Sacramento, CA) were named Second Team All-Conference team members.
Men’s Soccer team members were also well-represented in postseason awards. Sebastian Bosch (a senior from Guatemala City, Guatemala) was named a First Team All-Conference performer for his 14-goal, seven-assist senior campaign. Joining Bosch with conference accolades were David Beary (a sophomore from La Jolla, CA) who was named the Cal Pac’s Newcomer of the Year and a Second Team All-Conference selection, along with Drew Nyberg (a junior from Tigard, OR), who was also Second Team All-Conference. A pair of Oaks, Sebastian Bosch and Giuseppe Frattarolli (a senior from Caracas, Venezuela) were two of just 22 players in the nation to claim a place on the Capital One Academic All-American team. It was the second consecutive time Frattaroli earned this honor and the first for Bosch.
