Mirna Valerio Prepares for A Midsummer Night’s Dream Hourly Ultra
Brentwood, Tenn. (PRWEB) June 08, 2016 -- Swiftwick, a leading athletic performance sock company, is excited to continue supporting Mirna Valerio, the blogger behind Fat Girl Running, as she prepares for A Midsummer Night’s Dream in Canton, Ga. Mirna will run the 24-hour race, which begins on June 13, 2016, at 9:00 p.m.
While competing in A Midsummer Night’s Dream, Mirna will be running a 1.2-mile loop for 24 hours. This type of race has become Mirna’s favorite because she zones out and pushes herself past her limits. She also enjoys having her son on the course, encouraging her along the way. Though Mirna does not have a set training plan for this race, there is one aspect that she swears by and that is her Swiftwick socks. Mirna will be wearing the Aqua Aspire, which is one of Swiftwick’s newest colors. The Aspire is the company’s premier sock for training, racing and recovery.
“I love the variety of colors and sock lengths available in the Swiftwick Aspire line,” said Mirna Valerio. “In addition to being high-quality and long-lasting, the socks come in amazing colors and complement almost everything in my wardrobe. My favorite color so far is the Aqua. When I'm having a hard time on the trail, looking down at my colorful feet might just brighten my spirits.”
Mirna developed a passion for running when she decided to try out for her high school field hockey team. Though she struggled to run the warm up mile, she kept with it and began to love how running made her feel. Every day she woke up sore and tired but would run a five-mile loop on her own to better her time for practice.
Over the next several years, Mirna kept up her active habits by walking everywhere while she lived in New York. It was not until she took a stressful job in Maryland that Mirna changed her habits. She began to experience additional stress and weight gain from lack of exercise and commuting over six hours each day.
One day during her six-hour commute with her son, Mirna began to experience severe chest pain but kept driving. She later found out that she was experiencing an anxiety attack. Mirna’s world was changed when doctors asked her if she wanted to live to see her son grow up.
Her shocking realization gave Mirna the motivation to start using her school gym more. She then realized she was less stressed and sick, in addition to having lost 60 pounds. As she slowly began to increase her mileage, Mirna began to develop her love for running all over again. Since then, she has completed multiple 5k, half marathon, marathon and ultra races. Mirna has also been a sponsored Swiftwick athlete for the past year. Though she does not claim to be fast, she continues to test her limits and considers running to be her ultimate stress reliever.
