MultiPlan Awards $30,000 in Grants to Four Rural Hospitals
(PRWEB) June 02, 2014 -- MultiPlan, Inc. today announced the recipients of its 2014 Rural Health Outreach Grant Program bringing the total amount awarded since the program’s inception in 1995 to $460,000.
This year’s four grant recipients were selected from 101 applications and represent a diverse array of programs focused on improving the well being of people living in rural areas. Grant recipients will each receive $7,500 to help them introduce or expand services, education, screenings and other endeavors that support the healthcare needs of people in their communities.
The recipients of the 2013 MultiPlan Rural Health Outreach Grant are:
Herington Municipal Hospital in Herington, Kansas. This 25-bed acute care, critical access hospital in rural Kansas will use the grant funding to assist with the purchase of a new Compound Tomography (CT) Scanner. The new equipment will enable radiologists to better interpret images to provide more accurate and potentially lifesaving diagnoses while reducing the level of radiation exposure to patients.
Memorial Hospital of Union County in Marysville, Ohio. Memorial Hospital is a 97- bed acute and primary care facility serving Union and five surrounding counties. The hospital will use the grant toward the purchase of a Biodex Balance System which screens and assesses the risk of falls. The equipment will be used during free monthly screenings open to all community residents.
St. Alphonsus Medical Center in Ontario, Oregon. A 49-bed, acute care hospital, St. Alphonsus Medical Center serves one of the most remote and rural areas of the nation with just 3.2 people per square mile. The hospital will use MultiPlan’s grant for its “Frontier Healthcare Access Project” to increase access to primary and preventive care for residents of isolated and distant farming and ranching communities in Eastern Oregon. This project will link individuals to preventive care, provide resources toward managing chronic conditions, and address transportation barriers to treatment.
Sierra Vista Hospital in Truth or Consequences, New Mexico. The county served by Sierra Vista Hospital has been designated a medically underserved area. This 15-bed critical access hospital will use the grant to purchase Pediatric Crash Carts and a Childbirth Training Simulator. This equipment will support the hospital’s capabilities to provide pre- and post-natal care as well as pediatric services.
