New Member Appointed to Milton Hershey School Board of Managers
Hershey, PA (PRWEB) January 15, 2015 -- The Milton Hershey School Board of Managers announced today that it has appointed a new member. David Saltzman, executive director of the Robin Hood Foundation, will join the board as its tenth member, bringing with him decades of experience in helping families overcome poverty through education.
“I am grateful to be able to share my passion for fighting poverty as a member of the Milton Hershey School Board of Managers,” said Saltzman. “Milton Hershey School’s mission to help disadvantaged children from lower-income families lead fulfilling and productive lives is inspiring. My background as the executive director of the Robin Hood Foundation is a natural fit for the board, and my experience in working for the largest school district in the nation will support Milton Hershey’s vision to empower children through education.”
Saltzman has been a dynamic force in the fight against poverty in New York City through his work with the Robin Hood Foundation, which he joined in 1989. The foundation is New York’s largest poverty-fighting organization. It has provided nearly $2 billion in grants to schools, job-training programs, homeless shelters and other organizations dedicated to generating meaningful results for low-income families.
Prior to joining Robin Hood, Saltzman served as the special assistant to the president of the Board of Education of the City of New York. He also ran AIDS education programs for the New York City Department of Health and worked with homeless families through the Human Resources Administration of the City of New York.
“David’s impressive credentials and notable accomplishments in the areas of education and philanthropy will make him a valuable addition to our board,” said Milton Hershey School Chairman of the Board Robert Cavanaugh ’77. “Under the leadership of our President Pete Gurt, MHS is working aggressively to serve more children and we look forward to reaching our highest enrollment level of 2,000 students later this month. David’s skills and experience advocating for disadvantaged children will be instrumental in our efforts to serve more families. As a graduate of MHS and as chairman, I understand the important role each board member plays in helping our students achieve success. We are looking forward to collaborating with David to further the mission of the school and honor the vision of Milton and Catherine Hershey.”
Saltzman’s appointment is effective immediately.
