New NCES Diabetes Portion Plate Makes Portion Control Easy for People with Diabetes
Olathe, KS (PRWEB) August 27, 2013 -- Did you know that 25.8 million Americans are living with diabetes? Some are diagnosed and some still undiagnosed. And, unfortunately, this number is not shrinking. In 2010, 1.9 million new cases of diabetes were diagnosed in people aged 20 and over. (diabetes.org). Beyond the numbers, diabetes affects individuals. Learning to live with diabetes can be a challenging task. NCES strives to bring nutrition education and healthy lifestyle messages to the public. With this in mind, NCES has created the Right-Sized Diabetes Plate to add to the growing line of Right-Sized portion products.
Created by NCES dietitians and diabetes educators, the NCES Right-Sized Diabetes Plate is designed with the diabetes patient in mind. Addressing topics like portion control, physical activity and carbohydrate counting, this plate offers a complete solution for people with diabetes. Dietitians and diabetes educators can use these plates as teaching tools in their support group and classroom settings. Patients can use these plates in their everyday lives to manage their diabetes. The NCES Right-Sized Diabetes Plates have been researched and designed to align with the American Diabetes Association Guidelines.
“As we continue to create new products geared towards diabetes patients, this plate is the perfect addition for this catalog. Our goal is to reach dietitians and diabetes educators so that they can offer this plate as a resource to their patients and clients. The Right-Sized Diabetes Plate is designed to be simple and effective,” says Carrie Mark (MA, RD, LD), Director of Product Development and Acquisitions for NCES, Inc.
Although the prevalence of diabetes continues to grow each year, NCES works to create products that educate individuals on how to prevent diabetes and how to manage and reverse the effects of diabetes in those who have already been diagnosed. NCES has long been a recognized leader in nutrition education, diabetes education and portion control and continues to be with the launch of the new Right-Sized Diabetes Plate in the Fall 2013 catalog that is launched this week.
