New Thriller Sends American Agent into the Thick of a Guerilla War
BERKELEY, Calif. (PRWEB) May 01, 2023 -- Jeigh Leighton, an American agent, poses as a left-wing journalist to infiltrate a guerilla movement fighting to topple a repressive dictatorship in the fictional Central American Republic of Madrinega in author Damien Hunter’s newest thriller, “The Madrinega Missiles - Book I: Infiltration.”
Leighton’s mission, to locate and recover four cruise missiles seized by the guerillas, is almost thwarted when he is nearly killed, and later arrested and tortured by Madrinega’s secret police. But he is soon rescued by the guerillas only to confront their leader, Zorrita. Tension mounts as Zorrita, believing Leighton to be a bona fide journalist, seeks to induce him to help turn American public opinion in the guerillas’ favor, while Leighton is out to learn the missiles’ location and arrange for their recovery, by force if necessary.
The story takes an unexpected turn when attraction develops between these two antagonists, sworn to advance very different and conflicting political agendas. The ensuing relationship, marked by deception, love, and betrayal, will change the course of a war.
“This book has been rattling around in my head since 1983 when I was a college student,” said Hunter. “In the 1980’s I followed U.S. intervention in El Salvador and Nicaragua very closely, and I conceived a story of an American agent, who himself has leftist sympathies, posing as a journalist who is sent to infiltrate a guerilla movement and called upon to commit acts that would trigger an internal conflict for him.”
Hunter has already released the second book of the series, “The Madrinega Missles - Book Two: Revolution.” He has also previously released another spy thriller in the Jeigh Leighton series, “Secrets of State.”
“With these books, I’m striving to craft realtistic, three-dimensional stories against the political backdrop of Central America, rich in detail, and to explore the relationships between characters who struggle to advance competing beliefs in a world where trust is an alien concept,” said Hunter.
