North Texas Medical Center Taps Holon Solutions and TORCH to Build Health Information Exchange as Critical Foundation for Forming an ACO
Roswell, GA and Austin, TX (PRWEB) March 12, 2014 -- Holon Solutions and Texas Organization of Rural & Community Hospitals (TORCH) today announced an agreement with North Texas Medical Center to build a health information exchange (HIE) that will connect the hospital with physician clinics in the surrounding area.
“With help from Holon Solutions and TORCH, North Texas Medical Center is establishing the critical infrastructure to become a trusted hub of health information exchange between providers and realize our long-term vision of forming an accountable care organization (ACO),” said NTMC CEO Randy Bacus. “The HIE will help us exchange relevant patient information and facilitate the referral process with physicians. As we evolve, the HIE will enable us to expand our mission to managing population health to improve quality, outcomes and efficiency.”
North Texas Medical Center (NTMC), a 60-bed acute-care hospital, will use Holon’s CollaborNet HIE solution to connect its MEDITECH electronic health record (EHR) system with eight physician clinics in Gainesville, Texas, located in Cooke County about 60 miles north of the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex.
“It is exciting to see facilities like North Texas Medical Center invest in healthcare delivery and the population health of the community they serve,” said Mike McGuire, CEO of Holon Solutions. “Our CollaborNet HIE solution improves care team collaboration and will support NTMC’s vision of a connected community focused on quality outcomes.”
In the initial phase of the HIE project, NTMC will exchange lab orders and results, radiology orders and reports, and patient discharge summaries with clinics in the Gainesville community. Future phases of the HIE project will include expanding the HIE to other providers in Cooke County and surrounding areas to participate in the electronic change of Continuity of Care Documents (CCD) to unaffiliated organizations, connecting to the Texas immunization registry, ImmTrac, and sending syndromic surveillance information to county health organizations that monitor potential disease outbreaks.
“North Texas Medical Center is taking a lead in its community to improve patient care through the exchange of critical patient information,” said David Pearson, TORCH President and CEO. “We are excited to be a part of this exciting initiative with Holon and NTMC.”
