NRMP Board of Directors Welcomes New Members
Washington, DC (PRWEB) July 07, 2016 -- At its May 2016 meeting, the Board of Directors of the National Resident Matching Program® (NRMP®) elected Dr. Deborah S. Clements, Mr. Edward Salsberg, and Ms. Jennifer Bai to seats on the Board. Terms of service commenced July 1.
“We are delighted to welcome Dr. Clements, Mr. Salsberg, and Ms. Bai to the Board of Directors,” said NRMP Board Chair Dr. Maria C. Savoia. “The NRMP historically has attracted many diverse, highly-qualified individuals for governance positions, and this year was no exception. We look forward to working with them.”
Deborah S. Clements, M.D., F.A.A.F.P., is Professor and Chair of Family and Community Medicine at Northwestern Feinberg School of Medicine. Dr. Clements earned her M.D. degree from the University of Nebraska Medical Center, where she also completed her residency training. She served as Assistant Director of Medical Education at the American Academy of Family Physicians before becoming director of the Family Medicine residency program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. In 2013, she joined the Feinberg School of Medicine and currently is a member of the Executive Committee. Since 2011, Dr. Clements has participated in the Organization of Program Director Associations (OPDA), and she is the OPDA Chair-elect.
Edward S. Salsberg, M.P.A., is Director of Health Workforce Studies at the George Washington University Health Workforce Institute. Mr. Salsberg earned his Masters of Public Administration from New York University’s Robert F. Wagner Graduate School of Public Service with a concentration in health policy and health economics. He worked almost 20 years with the New York State Department of Health in Albany, New York before becoming Director of the Center for Health Workforce Studies at State University of New York (SUNY) Albany School of Public Health. In 2004, Mr. Salsberg became the founding director of the Center for Workforce Studies at the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), and in 2010 became founding director of the National Center for Health Workforce Analyses for the United States Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). He joined the faculty at George Washington University in 2014 and is widely recognized as a leading national voice on issues related to physician education and training, workforce policies, and patient access to care.
Jennifer Bai is a third-year student at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. A member of Phi Beta Kappa, Ms. Bai graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology and a minor in Art History from Dartmouth College. She is president of the Pediatrics and Dermatology interest groups at the University of Maryland and a student representative to the AAMC Organization of Student Representatives (OSR).
Dr. Clements, Mr. Salsberg, and Ms. Bai replaced Dr. Hal B. Jenson, founding dean of the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine and past Chair of the NRMP Board of Directors; Dr. Mahendr Kochar, Associate Dean for Graduate Medical Education at the University of California, Riverside (ret.); and medical student Mr. Francis Deng.
