October Declared Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. Manufacturing Month
East Hartford, Connecticut (PRWEB) September 26, 2017 -- Connecticut’s next generation of manufacturers will come together by the hundreds in October for the sixth annual Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. Manufacturing Month, officially proclaimed by Governor Dannel P. Malloy to recognize the importance of the more than 4,500 Connecticut manufacturing companies to the state’s economy and to highlight industry career opportunities statewide.
Developing the skilled workforce pipeline through early career awareness is especially critical now, as Connecticut’s manufacturing industry is poised to significantly grow.
“For over three centuries manufacturing in Connecticut has been a vibrant part of our economy and a steady source of good paying jobs with good benefits for residents,” said Governor Malloy. “Today about 4,500 manufacturing companies call Connecticut home, and for good reason. Connecticut boasts one of the most highly educated and productive workforces and leads the nation in U.S. patents as well as business research development. Now more than ever, it is imperative that we invest in workforce development to train students for 21st century manufacturing careers.”
Licensed and led by the Connecticut Center for Advanced Technology Inc. (CCAT) and financed by the Department of Economic and Community Development’s Manufacturing Innovation Fund, Connecticut. During Manufacturing Month, nearly 400 middle and high school students will participate in two signature Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. events —Manufacturing Mania and Making It Real: Girls & Manufacturing Summit.
Manufacturing Mania activities will take place on National Manufacturing Day, Friday, October 6 at the Mystic Marriott Hotel in Groton, Conn.
The program will be attended by students and includes displays from manufacturers and higher education institutions, demonstrations, hands-on activities, team-based competitions, and guest speakers.
For the Making It Real: Girls & Manufacturing Summit, Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. is partnering with Dream It. Do It. Massachusetts and MassDevelopment’s AMP it up! to host middle and high school girls at the Hartford/Windsor Marriott Hotel in Windsor, Conn. on Thursday, October 19. The students will learn about manufacturing through interactive exhibits and workshops and hear from leading women in the industry, who will share their inspiring, personal success stories with the students.
“Through events like these, along with our comprehensive summer Young Manufacturer Academies and innovative in-school programming, Connecticut. Dream It. Do It. is introducing the next generation of talent to careers in manufacturing and promoting the development of skills vital for success in the 21st century workplace,” said Elliot Ginsberg, CEO and President of CCAT.
According to Susan Palisano, Director of Education & Workforce Development, since 2012 these unique events have introduced more than 2,000 middle and high school students and teachers to the wide variety of educational and career pathways that today's manufacturing offers.
