Oklahoma City Students Sign for “Historic” First Rose State Teams
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma (PRWEB) April 30, 2014 -- The first signees to the Rose State College soccer team in Oklahoma City are Skyler Blake Walker, 18, soon to be a graduate of Carl Albert High School, and Kyla Nicole Sharry, 17, soon to be a graduate of Southmoore High School.
Both signed at their respective high schools, then visited the campus for a ceremony with President Jeanie Webb. President Webb told the students that phase one of enhancing the college's sports programs is underway, with the ultimate goal of a new sports facility complex for baseball, softball, and soccer.
“We have a vision,” Webb told the students. “And now you are part of our history. This is an exciting time.”
Walker, who plans to major in nursing, said he was coached in the sport from the age of four and considers himself “a born soccer player.”
“For fourteen years, it’s been nothing but soccer,” Walker said. “I just want to help start up the new program.”
Sharry said she also played from the age of four, primarily for the “Celtic Fury” of the Norman Youth Soccer Association. She said he chose Rose State College because she wants to major in Radiology at the college’s recently-built Health Sciences facility.
“I was looking for my major first, and this college has radiology,” Sharry said. “I’m nervous, but excited about starting a new chapter in my life.”
