Party of the Century - Not to be Missed
Denver, CO (PRWEB) January 30, 2016 -- There is much to celebrate as we mark Emily Griffith’s birthday. There have been 2 million students seeking a better life that have taken classes at the 100-year-old Emily Griffith Opportunity School (and now Emily Griffith Technical College). Successful enrollees have come from more than 100 countries.
Join us Feb. 12 when the Emily Griffith Foundation marks Emily’s birthday and the College’s centennial with The Party of the Century at the History Colorado Center, 1200 Broadway. The museum will be transformed into a speakeasy, chosen because Griffith’s term as founder and principal of Denver’s Opportunity School was 1916-1933, concurrent with the years of Prohibition in Colorado.
This event will run from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m. The topnotch entertainment features not one, but two major acts:
Curious Theatre Company will present an original theatrical performance that illustrates Emily’s inspiring and intriguing life and legacy.
Denver’s Lannie Garrett and her band will perform.
There will also be fun games of chance, Games of Opportunity, to win great prizes that include tickets to Denver sports teams and cultural destinations, unique art pieces and weekend getaways. The party will feature Prohibition-era cocktails and a one-of-a-kind menu with classic vintage offerings such as beef wellington and root beer floats.
There are two levels of tickets: $100 for supporter and $500 for patron. The latter will have a 1-in-50 chance to win a $7,500 vacation from Inspirato or a remarkable weekend of entertainment in Downtown Denver.
Tickets are for sale at http://www.egfoundation.org. Proceeds from the party will help increase the number of student scholarships.
There will be no speeches, no silent auction or live appeal. This special event is part of a yearlong community celebration, “Opening Doors of Opportunity for 100 Years,” to celebrate the past 100 years and create momentum for the next century of learning at the Emily Griffith Technical College. Susan Kiely serves as chair of the entire celebration. Honorary event chairs are Governor John Hickenlooper, Mayor Michael B. Hancock, Bill Vidal, Wellington Webb and Federico Peña.
Driven by her fervent philosophy to provide “opportunity for all who wish to learn,” Emily Griffith opened the nation’s first public adult vocational school in Denver in 1916. The Opportunity School enabled adults of diverse backgrounds to learn new skills and helped them chart their own course to success. Emily recognized that education and skill development are the keys to bolstering America’s middle class.
