Pet Sitters International Raises More Than $15K for the Stokes County Animal Shelter
(PRWEB) September 30, 2013 -- When Pet Sitters International (PSI) selected Winston-Salem, N.C., as the host city for its 2013 Quest for Excellence Convention, staff planners immediately knew which organization they wanted to benefit from the convention’s annual charity auction—the Stokes County Animal Shelter. What the planners did not realize, however, was just how much money the event would raise. When the final item was sold at the Quest 2013 Charity Auction on Sept. 23, auction sales and monetary donations exceeded $15,000.
“PSI uses the charity auction funds raised at each annual convention to benefit a local organization,” explained Patti Moran, PSI president and founder. “The professional pet sitters, conference speakers and exhibitors participating in the convention are always generous, but this year greatly surpassed our expectations.”
Since 1995, PSI has raised more than $100,000 for pet-related organizations across the United States through its annual charity auctions.
Moran said PSI employees were extremely excited about helping an organization in their hometown this year.
“We are all impressed with the Stokes County Animal Shelter staff members who work diligently to increase the shelter’s adoption rates despite having an inadequate, outdated facility,” she said.
“I knew it was going to be an auction but I didn’t realize it was going to be a really big auction,” said shelter worker Sarah Johnson. “The generosity of PSI’s convention attendees means a lot to us and especially the animals.”
Johnson said the money raised at PSI’s Quest 2013 Charity Auction will go to help with immediate needs like upgrades to equipment and software.
PSI is the world’s largest educational association for professional pet sitters and is headquartered in King, N.C. More than 150 professional pet sitters and pet-industry experts from 25 U.S. states and Canada attended this year’s Quest for Excellence Convention.
