PhD Pub Chicago Opens at University Village Marketplace Near UIC
Chicago, IL (PRWEB) May 29, 2014 -- PhD Pub Chicago (http://www.phdpubchicago.com), a tavern and beer garden featuring specialty cocktails and craft brews, has opened at 1257 S. Halsted St. in University Village Marketplace (http://www.uvmarketplace.com), a mix of dining, retail, and service offerings in the heart of Chicago’s historic Maxwell Street.
Owners Mike Dyra (formerly of Marble and Cleo’s) and Marc Romano (formerly of Gilligan’s and Thurston’s) transformed the 2,500-square-foot former wine store and patio using mostly recycled vintage materials, including a 1920s mahogany bar and stained glass. Modern touches include USB ports and electrical outlets at each table and around the bar. The Victorian-style study is available for private parties, and the cozy patio is complete with fireplaces and barbecue grills.
“Our goal was to create a comfortable environment where people from UIC and surrounding areas can enjoy drinks, listen to music, or weather permitting, hang out with friends in the beer garden,” said Romano, who also heads the World Trade Council (http://www.theworldtradecouncil.org), an international research and consulting firm.
“The entrepreneurs that pioneered this magnificent strip have warmly welcomed us as a complement to the local business community,” said Dyra.
PhD Pub features a daily craft beer special for $3.50, a “bring your own food” option and, for small parties, access to the outdoor grills.
PhD Pub is open Mondays through Thursdays 3 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Fridays 1 p.m. to 2 a.m.; Saturdays noon to 3 a.m.; and Sundays noon to 2 a.m.
