Photographers Heading to Streets of San Francisco for New International Festival
San Francisco, California (PRWEB) February 25, 2016 -- The first annual StreetFoto San Francisco will celebrate the rapidly-growing art of street photography by hosting exhibits, lectures, workshops, portfolio reviews, and an international contest. “Street photography is surging in popularity,” said StreetFoto founder Ken Walton, “and we intend to be the world’s largest event dedicated to it.” The festival will take place June 8-12, 2016 at Joe Goode Annex, RayKo Photo Center, and several other venues in San Francisco.
Street photographers capture candid moments of everyday life in public. StreetFoto organizers hope to highlight the best contemporary examples of the genre by hosting an international street photography competition that is now open for submissions. StreetFoto has contests for single street photos, photographic series, and mobile street photography. Contest finalists will be exhibited during the festival and winners, who will be announced at an awards ceremony, will eligible for cash prizes and publication in APF Magazine. Street photographers are invited to submit their best work for consideration before the deadline of April 15, 2016. Contest details can be found at http://streetfoto.org/contests
The festival will also focus on street photography education by hosting workshops by several prominent street photographers. Well-known New York photographer and In-Public member Richard Bram will be teaching a 4-day class targeted at all skill levels. APF Magazine co-founder Vineet Vohra, one of India’s most accomplished street photographers, will be teaching a 3-day class titled “The Art of Storytelling,” his first workshop in North America. There will also be two workshops by Jack Simon, a popular San Francisco Bay Area photographer who will lead students around his favorite places to shoot on his home turf.
StreetFoto is being organized by a team of volunteers from the San Francisco area. “We want to raise awareness of the art of street photography and highlight San Francisco as one of the best places to create it,” said Walton.
